Former Operation Ivy bandmates Jesse Michaels and Tim Armstrong have reunited to form a new band called Bad Optix. So, this is our first single RAID and there are a ton more BAD OPTIX songs to come. The rhythm section of Joey and Spencer is as good as it gets and their respected styles has added another element to the song writing. An incredible band and phenomenal people. I met and became quick friends with Spencer a few years back when Joey brought Trash Talk over to record at my studio. He is one of the best drummers in the world and a dear friend. Joey and I have been friends for years and I have loved all the work he has done drumming for the likes of Circle Jerks, The Bronx, Trash Talk and Wasted Youth (just to name a few). There is a special chemistry between us and I don’t take it for granted. Jesse and I just stared writing again a lot. A few years ago we started writing songs again!Ī couple of the songs ended up on Grade 2’s record. I always felt a little sadness that Jesse and I stoped making music together. Jesse and I both continued down our own musical journeys through the years. We formed Operation Ivy in 1987 and 2 years later we broke up. I’ve been friends with Jesse since the early 1980s when we were teenagers. There is a special chemistry between us and I don’t take it for granted.'

Their name was derived from the Operation Ivy series of nuclear tests. The band consisted of frontman Jesse Michaels (vocals), Tim Armstrong (Credited as “Lint”) (Vocals/Guitar), Matt Freeman (Credited as Matt McCall) (Bass/Backing Vocals), and Dave Mello (credited as Hujuku Girl) (Drums/Backing Vocals).

They were credited as one of the first ska punk bands, influencing bands such as The Suicide Machines, Choking Victim and Authority Zero.

Operation Ivy was a highly influential ska/punk band that originated from the East Bay of San Francisco (in Berkeley) and was active from 1987 through 1989. Jesse Michaels and Tim Armstrong of legendary ska-punk band Operation Ivy unveiled their new band Bad Optix today.
